warm fuzzies from The Colorado Creed!

okay, i know others will post about this but i just can't hold it back. for those of you not at CU, we received the following email tonight (edited to take out last names and email addresses):

"Dear CU-Boulder students, faculty, and staff,

Are you tired of defending your school and your degree? The Colorado Creed is here to help.

As we all know, CU has come under attack for a variety of reasons during the past year. Unfortunately this attack has damaged the integrity of our academic work. Yet, we all know this is an excellent institution of higher learning and personal growth, and we are not defined by negative media images.
The Colorado Creed reinforces the positive attributes of our school.

The Creed was created by students in the spring of 2004 in response to concern for the value of our degrees. We want The Creed to change the negative culture at CU because we are all responsible for the integrity of our degrees.

The Colorado Creed is a living tool for all of us reminding us to act with honor, integrity, and accountability in our interactions with all members of the CU and Boulder community. Everyone should consider the positive and negative consequences of their actions before making a decision, because those we make today affect all of our futures.

The Creed also asks people to respect the rights of others and accept their differences. Our campus includes people from all different backgrounds from all over the world. Though we may not always agree with each other, it is necessary to recognize our differences and make the best of them.

Finally, the Creed asks people to contribute to the greater good of the community. We all benefit from the contributions of our peers.

In order to promote the qualities stated in the Creed, and to demonstrate the way members of the CU community interact with their peers, we will be placing plaques on buildings and stones in sidewalks.

Please join us as we inaugurate the Creed and unveil our first stone on Monday April 11 at 1:00 PM outside Old Main.

yah, that's going to do SO much good! the whole world is going to say--"oh hey, look at that plaque! we had those CU kids all wrong! they're a bunch of good people over there. i mean, they have a PLAQUE!"

how is this helping? how is this not just a waste of money? if you need a reminder to act like a caring, compassionate, accepting human being, is a reminder going to do any good?

i have better suggestions. let's get an administration who can actually handle a crisis. how about we find the people who are perpetrating the racial slurs and expel them? or maybe we could fire the football coach? nah, a plaque is clearly superior to actually fixing anything!
